War of Independence Exhibition

The War of Independence exhibition is part of Dublin City Council’s Decade of Commemorations programme. It tells the history of the conflict using contemporary photographs and film. The title ‘Goodbye Dublin’ signals the end of the War of Independence following a truce between the IRA and the forces of the Crown. Dublin played a central role during the war and was the seat of the British administration who had a heavy police and military presence. It was vital that the Irish Volunteers contested control of the city and demonstrated that British control over Ireland was loosening, however it had also taken its toll on volunteers and civilians alike.
